Candace well when it comes to free roaming ferrets it depends on who you ask. Because letting them out of their cage unsupervised doesn't come without some risk, but it's a quality of life issue. So if you ask a vet they will usually tell you "no never let your ferret out of its cage unsupervised". (That is because they see all the terrible accidents which happen from time to time, most of which probably wouldnt have happened if the ferret was in its cage). But most people, probably 80% of ferret owners ignore that advice and allow ferret some unsupervised freedom to roam outside of it's cage . The less furniture and appliances you have in the room obviously the safer it will be.

If you decide to try it first monitor him for a while before leaving him alone in your room because sometimes there are hidden dangers that you're not even aware of. And never let him out of the cage at night when you're sleeping cause if he jumps on the bed while your asleep you can roll over on him. You will have to get used to doing things slowly. Opening the door slowly when you enter the room, opening and closing drawers slowly, looking under pillows before you sit down, watching where you walk, things like that, because ferrets get into everything.

@Gabbi It's not usually necessary to wake them cause they will usually be woken up when they hear you starting to go about your day, and wake up by themselves. Then usually what happens like on weekends is that if you sleep late your ferrets will be up before you, waiting for you to wake up. I wouldn't worry about him oversleeping during the day. it's actually a good idea if he sleeps all day so he will be full of energy when you come home from school. Then as long as you spend 3 - 4 hours playing with him somewhere between 3pm and 9pm he will be tired out again by time you go to bed.

Wysong is the best food I think. It contains raw dehydrated meat with the organs, ground bones and everything just like what a ferret would eat in the wild. Wysong Ferret Archetypal 2

Another good one is EVO Dry Ferret Food

Signs of illness in ferrets are not that different from people. Loss of appetite, fatigue, fever, or if there is a change in their bathroom habits, those are things to take notice of.

It's normal for ferrets to sleep a lot, but if he ignores you when you try to play with him then he may be depressed. He should be awake and active (showing interest in playing) for at least 4 hours a day.

I have a ferret named dumas(dumbass). I'm wondering what is the best kind of food to feed him? I would like some brandnames.

                                                                                                                                                          Thanks,
